Properties of Essential Oils

Essential oils are liquid which are distilled from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots or other elements of plant. Essential oils are not that much oily but clear and in some cases amber or yellow in color. They are highly concentrated with slow evaporation on long time. Essential oils are different than perfume oils or fragrance oils but used in aroma therapy oils. Essential oils are derived from the true plants. Perfume oils are artificially created fragrances or contain artificial substances and do not offer the therapeutic benefits that essential oil offer. The chemical composition and aroma of essential oils can provide valuable psychological and physical therapeutic benefits. Essential oils are very much beneficial when applied with oils like sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and grapeseed oil to the skin. Inhalation of the Essential oils also has therapeutic benefits as these oil molecules are absorbed into the bloodstream by lungs.

Perfume Oils

Perfume oil is originated from blending and burning of fragrant resins in ancient times. It is believed by many researchers that perfume oils originated in ancient Egypt. Perfume oils are considered as designer fragrances contain various ingredients mainly alcohol solution and concentrated fragrance oil. Perfume oils contain 15 – 30% oil and remaining portion as alcohol. This proportion may vary depends on strength of oil and manufacturer that makes perfume. Perfume oils are the scented element which gives perfumes and colognes their smell. Perfume oils are used to make scented soaps, shampoo, candles, lotions, air fresheners and other scented products. Perfume oils are less costly than perfumes. Perfume oils are unable to dilute in the alcohol thus it remains for long on the skin. Perfume oils are easy to carry due to small in size. High quality perfume oil is extremely difficult to distinguish from the actual designer perfume. As per the usage the oils are differentiated in two types. One oil is applied to body and second types of oil are not made for body and used in manufacturing soaps, candles etc. Many a time’s many manufacturers are using second types of oil in body applications. This may or may not be harmful to the body. Still always check ingredients well before purchasing any oil products to get the best quality material for your use.
